Hey, all!!
So here's the thing: I've seen natural shea butter (100%...natural shea) in the hair store, and was so tempted to buy it because I've heard it's so good with keeping hair moisturized and stuff!
But, I was wondering how the heck people use it?! Do you guys blend it up and add other stuff? Or...what should I do...and how to use it?
Thanks in advance!
Permalink Reply by Jessica on December 26, 2011 at 12:47pm I feel that shea is a great medium to experiment with. It can be used alone and it can be enhanced with other oils. If it's a reasonable price, I would say go for it-a little goes a pretty long way!

In the summer when I can wash my hair like everyday I use shea butter after every hair wash. Melt the amount of shea you need either alone or with some oil (I like coconut oil) and just rake it through your freshly washed hair. Careful not to use too much or your hair will look gray from all the gunk and the only way to fix it is to wash it again.
If you have some $ to burn or want to treat yourself the whipped pudding from Oyin is cool. Its shea butter based but creamier and seems to moisturize even better than when I just use the shea butter alone.
Permalink Reply by Melissa B on December 27, 2011 at 2:28pm Thanks for the suggestion :). Ah, I may just treat myself to the whipped pudding, ahaha. It sounds easier, and I have a heavy hand...so I may just over use the shea butter. One thing: does the shea butter weigh down hair? Or is it lightweight depending on the amount I use?
Permalink Reply by Melissa Severe on December 27, 2011 at 9:23pm I guess its lightweight depending on your hair texture and how you use it. My hair medium - thick and coarse. I would use sparingly if I had a finer texture of hair.

That is my experience as well.
Permalink Reply by Tanay Hudson on December 27, 2011 at 3:00pm When I use it I melt it all the way down into a oil. That's when I find it easiest to apply to my hair. It adds great shine and moisture to my hair! When I put the Shea butter in my hair, it stays well moisturized for about a week.

Permalink Reply by Lillian Mae on December 29, 2011 at 12:53pm Get a good cheapy one! I paid $6 at target for mine last year, specifically for whipping shea butters...It's loud, and I see electric sparks every now and again :(
