I adopted my daughter this year & she is 13. She has very damaged short hair and it don't seem to grow. It is to short for brides. My daughter to me is beautiful but she is very self conscious about her hair. I am white and have tried to educate myself all i can on how to manage her hair but nothing seems to work. Someone has told me they can trim it and texture it and that will help it grow but my daughter does not want it cut b/c it is already really short. I really need help with her hair so she can feel beautiful the way i see her. She has been picked on at school because of her hair & it breaks my heart that i can not fix her hair overnight. Can someone email me @ ricka51@yahoo.com with things i can do to help her.
Thank You-
HELP PLEASE>>>>

As your daughter has very short hair and does not want to cut the rest off all I can suggest is a wig, preferably a short one so it looks realistic. As your daughter's hair grows longer you could move onto single plait extensions or a weave until it has grown enough for her to have the confidence to wear it out.
As she has damaged hair it is important that she looks after her hair and her scalp, when she is at home she should remove the wig. She can probably rinse her hair with water daily and then massage her scalp with - a mix of tea tree oil about 5 drops, 20ml castor oil and 80ml olive oil. She only needs to apply a little bit to her scalp and massage it in daily this will encourage the hair follicles to become more active. Once a week she should shampoo and condition her hair then apply a leave in conditioner like Giovanni Direct Leave In and then massage the oil mix above into her hair and scalp.
It would not be a good idea to texturise her hair as it seems her scalp is very sensitive and the application of chemicals may cause more harm. Another suggestion is to speak to a woman who wears her hair natural she may also be able to advise you. If you don't know of any next time you see a black woman with natural hair compliment her hair and then ask for advice, us naturals like to help each other out.
I wish you and your daughter the best.

I will try what you have suggested, I am also thinking about taking her to the Dr. because i think she may have Traction Alopecia. I am very concerned & really want her to be better. Once again thank you for your response.
